Tribute to the great Kabyle artist Slimane Azem

On Friday 18 September 2026 at 6 pm, the City of Longwy and the Franco-Berber Cultural Network (CBF) invite residents to a ceremony in tribute to Slimane AZEM, in the Parc des Récollets.

An emblematic figure of Kabyle song, Slimane AZEM holds a special place in Franco-Berber cultural memory and in the history of Longwy. Through this ceremony, the City wishes to keep the artist’s memory alive and recall the links between his career and the history of the town.

A tribute led by the City and the Franco-Berber Cultural Network (CBF)

The ceremony will bring together Vincent HAMEN, Mayor of Longwy and Vice-President of the Departmental Council, Isabel VICENCIO, Deputy Mayor for Heritage, Tourism and Associations, and Emmanuella MBAZOA, Mayor of the Children’s Municipal Council.

The Franco-Berber Cultural Network will also be represented by Rachid MOUKAH, underlining the wish to make this tribute a moment of transmission and sharing around the memory and cultural heritage of the Amazigh people.

A memory that is passed on

Beyond its commemorative dimension, this event is an opportunity to introduce younger generations to the career of an artist whose songs have accompanied several generations of Kabyles, in France as in Algeria.

The presence of the Children’s Municipal Council also gives this ceremony a special dimension: that of a memory that is passed on and a cultural heritage that continues to find its place in local life.

The City of Longwy and the CBF invite the people of Longwy, families, associations and all those attached to Kabyle culture to come in large numbers and share this moment of remembrance.
